
BHASHINI (BHASHa INterface for India)
- BHASHINI stands for BHASHa INterface for India.
- It was launched under the Digital India Mission.
- The project is implemented by the Digital India BHASHINI Division under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
- It aims to make digital content and government services accessible in 22 Scheduled Indian languages and other regional languages.
- BHASHINI uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies.
- Its vision is “Ek Bhasha Se Dusri Bhasha Tak – Bridging the Language Barrier.”
- It provides real-time speech-to-speech, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and text-to-text translation services.
AADI VAANI
- Aadi Vaani is India’s first AI-based translator for Adivasi (tribal) languages.
- It was launched by the Government of India in its beta version.
- The tool enables translation of speech and text between Hindi, English, and six Adivasi languages.
- The six supported Adivasi languages are Bhili, Mundari, Gondi, Santali, Kui, and Garo.
- Aadi Vaani is built on Meta’s NLLB (No Language Left Behind) and IndicTrans2 frameworks.
- It uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) for multilingual translation.
- The project was tested through the Adi Karmayogi initiative, a nationwide capacity-building program in tribal districts.
- It aims to preserve tribal languages and promote digital inclusion among Adivasi communities.
- The initiative also supports communication, education, and e-governance access for tribal populations.
- Aadi Vaani contributes to the broader goal of “Technology for All” under the Digital India Mission.
